Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an environmentally sensitive approach to managing pests. IPM depends on frequent monitoring of plants and pests, using management strategies only when and where needed. The approach emphasizes physical, mechanical, cultural and biological controls and only uses chemical control as a last resort. When chemical control is used the least toxic effective available pesticide will be applied.

Certified Landscape Technician (CLT) is a nationally recognized certification program that is administered by the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET). It has established a national baseline for standards and practices in the field that provides governmental agencies, landscape designers/architects, the building industry and the public with a means of identifying qualified landscape professionals. The candidate must pass rigorous physical and written exams to achieve certification and must maintain certification by on-going educational credits and voluntary participation in the program. The program is administered in Washington state by the Washington Association of Landscape Professionals.
